Clary Fray (Lily Collins) ist ein normaler und vor allem nur durchschnittlich beliebter Teenager. Doch als sie
erfährt,
dass sie einer überaus langen Blutlinie von sogenannten "Schattenjägern" entstammt, ändert
sich für sie alles. Auch
schon ihre Mutter Jocelyn (Lena Headey) war eine Kriegerin gegen das Böse und hat
Jagd auf Dämonen gemacht,
doch hat sie dieses Geheimnis stets vor ihrer Tochter gehütet. Als Clary während
einer Party auf den geheimnisvollen
Jace Wayland (Jamie Campbell Bower) trifft und kurz darauf auch noch ihre
Mutter entführt wird, kommt das
Mädchen hinter das Geheimnis seiner Familie und entdeckt, welche Kräfte in
ihm schlummern. Jace führt Clary in die
Gesellschaft der Schattenjäger ein und unterstützt sie bei der
Suche nach ihrer Mutter. Doch schnell merken beide,
dass noch viel mehr auf dem Spiel steht, denn der überaus
gefährliche Valentine Morgenstern (Jonathan Rhys Meyers)
schart eine riesige Armee bestehend aus Werwölfen,
Vampiren und anderen tödlichen Kreaturen um sich, um einen
letzten finalen Schlag gegen die Schattenkrieger
auszuführen.

Basiert auf dem ersten Roman der gleichnamigen Jugendbuch-Reihe von Cassandra Clare.
